After reading The Hungry Little Lady blog about Riverhead Coffee, it was a spot that I wanted to visit. This independent coffee shop is brilliantly situated just outside the bus station in Grimsby.
The first thing that catches your eye in the Riverhead Coffee shop is the world map on the wall that is marked with chalk, detailing where their customers have been and come from. I then noticed and fell in love with how the coffee shop is decorated with mismatched furniture and hand made cushions it makes you feel right at home.
With little paper menus on each table telling the customers about all the fresh food, coffee and loose leaf tea they sell. I chose an iced vanilla latte and mum went for a cappuccino whilst we waited for our food.
The menu offers alternatives for dairy free and gluten free which makes the shop stand out as not everywhere caters for these needs.
The tables are also set with brown and white sugar in cute vintage black treacle tins and flowers in plastic bottles.
We definitely got to the cafe at the right time as it soon started to fill up with people for lunch and takeaway coffee.
I went for the crispy bacon salad which was presented beautifully and tasted amazing. It was made up of spinach, tomato, avocado, feta cheese, crispy bacon and a lemon dressing.
Mum chose the chicken salad which was made up of spinach, rocket, cucumber, avocado, chicken and a pesto mayo.
The counter was full of tempting home made cakes and treats.
Mum and I chose to treat ourselves to a cake each although we ended up halving them and sharing. We went for the double chocolate brownie and a blueberry muffin. The chocolate brownie is one of the best I've ever tried; moist and with a slight chewiness, I would definitely have it again and again.
After finishing our food we decided to have another drink. I chose the Cawston press in rhubarb where as mum went for tea. The rhubarb juice tasted just like rhubarb custard sweets which were one of my favourites as a child.
A cute armchair where people wait for their takeaway.
This quaint little coffee shop has a great atmosphere. The time just seems to fly by there. A great place to catch up with friends or to do work out of the house. The staff are amazingly friendly. A place i will visit again and again for sure.
Thanks for reading ....
Until next time :)
