Friday 28th August
Before heading to leeds i was really upset about my biggest clash on friday. Frank Turner had been schedueled to headline the festival republic tent at the same time The Libertines were headlining the main stage. Having chose before the festival to see The Libertines my day was crammed pack with acts on Friday.
Friday at 12 myself and rich headed into the arena to watch an act we had never heard of to kill time before other acts. Feed the rhino were the opening act at leeds festival on the main stage. The band i would describe as heavy metal or hard rock and although playing well just wasn't a band i'd go see again.
After feed the rhino Lonley the brave played a half an hour slot. This alternative band from Cambridge was definitely a better band for me. The softer rock and catchy tunes have made me want to go listen to more of there songs. A firm favourite at the moment is River, river.
Following lonely the brave was another alternative band Against me. Before leeds I had listened to a few of their songs and had liked their sound. The set did not disapoint.
Two bands i had been waiting for all morning were The gaslight anthem and The Cribs. Having seen The gaslight anthem in November in Cardiff I was excited to see them play a festival. I was really pleased that they pulled in quite a crowd. Some of my favourite songs from The gaslight anthem are Handwritten, Great expectations and the '59 sound.
Staging and how close we were for The gaslight anthem.
Brian Fallon doing what he does best.
The cribs crowd started to grow as soon as gaslight had finished the set. The cribs a well known and loved indie band from england. I have been enjoying their new album all summer and was excited to see them for the first time live.
The weather at leeds on Friday was scortching and made the day even better. A cold somersby and good music kicked the bank holiday weekend off nicely.
After the cribs Richard and I decided to leave the main stage and see some of the smaller artists and stages were offering. We ended up seeing four acts. We saw minni mansions, Jack Garratt, Years and Years and manchester orchestra.
Two that i have to mention more about. Jack Garratt the 23 year old singer songwriter and producer. He has already been compared to Ed Sheeran and I will definitely be listening out for him. His music is wonderful. Go give him a listen my two favourites are chemical and weathered.
The second is Year and Years. After releasing kings this year I had to go see them live. The energy for the band in the nme tent was amazing and the two big hits kings and shine got the crowd pumping.
To finish friday we headed down to see The Libertines headline main stage. I have to say this made my Friday.
Although not being a fan of such but enjoying some of their better known songs such as Don't look back into the sun and can't stand me now. The crowd was electric and the band knew how to get the audience going making this set unforgettable. I'm glad i never gave up the opportunity of seeing them live.
After cramming in 10 acts to Friday highlights have to be The Libertines, The gaslight anthem and The cribs.
If you attended leeds festival who was your favourite act and did you see anyone new? Let me know.
Next time saturday round up
Until then ....x
